And aside from the environmental impact what does this mean for AI startups, companies and investors?

That’s the 600 billion dollar question says David Cahn from Sequoia Capital.

Too Much Juice, Not Enough Profit could have serious effects on the stock markets optimistic outlook on AI.

Imagine building massive power plants for a city that doesn't exist yet. That's what's happening with AI. Companies are buying tons of super-computers (GPUs) that use electricity like small countries. But right now, not enough people are "living in this AI city" to justify the energy use.

This situation could create a wild ride for the stock market:

The big question: Will enough people start using AI to make all this energy use worth it? Or are we just throwing money (and electricity) out the window?

Hold onto your hard drives, folks! AI's insatiable appetite for data is causing an unexpected feast in the energy world. Tech giants are suddenly eyeing nuclear power like it's the last slice of pizza at a hackathon!

Amazon, Microsoft, and Google are placing their bets on the atomic option, while Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos are joining the nuclear party. It's like a billionaire's game of musical chairs, but with reactors!

Oklo, the nuclear startup backed by OpenAI's Sam Altman, is seeing demand skyrocket faster than you can say "ChatGPT." We're talking megawatts to gigawatts in the blink of an AI!

But it's not all smooth sailing in these radioactive waters. Regulatory hurdles, safety concerns, and uranium supply issues are like the broccoli on this energy plate - necessary but not always popular.

Meanwhile, solar, wind, and natural gas are shouting, "Hey, what about us?" It's an all-you-can-eat energy buffet, and AI's bringing a big appetite to the table.

The big question: Can our aging power grid handle this AI-powered feast?

Salesforce has developed a new AI model called xLAM-1B, and it’s a big deal! Even though it has 1 billion parameters—way less than other big AI models (Chatgpt 4 172 times more parameters) —it’s outperforming larger models at interacting with the outside world.

How is it doing this? Salesforce used the APIGen pipeline to cherry-pick and prepare the data for training only on what is needed. This intelligent data handling proves that quality matters more than size in AI (we’ll leave out the sexual innuendos). Plus, because xLAM-1B is smaller and more efficient, it’s perfect for native AI on your phone or other devices with far less computing power.

This is cool because it could change how we think about AI—making it more intelligent and accessible for everyday life, not just big projects. This proves, sometimes little is better 😉.

Recently leaked is Openai’s project, Strawberry, and it might just hold the answer to accessing AI models with reasoning abilities similar to humans. The workings of this new model that OpenAI has been developing are a closely guarded secret. The objective is to empower AI to do more than respond to inquiries; it should also strategize, explore the web independently, and conduct thorough investigations … above all, reason and logic. Sam Altman sees reasoning as essential for AI advancement and views Strawberry as a critical element in their strategy for addressing current AI shortcomings.
